Meet Amy Carter
Hello! I’m Amy Carter, your state representative for House District 175 in the Georgia General Assembly. I am a lifelong resident of South Georgia and grew up in Valdosta. My husband Doug and I have two children, Mary Alex and Davis. Our district is a great place to raise children, and I consider our community my extended family. The honor and privilege you have bestowed upon me since 2006 by choosing me as your state representative has been one of the highlights of my life, and I cannot thank you enough for the experience.
Outside of the elective office, I am the Diversified Cooperative Training Coordinator for Lowndes High School. Through a partnership with local businesses, I prepare students for the challenges they will face in the real world. Before working with high school students, I was a Business & Office Technology instructor at Valdosta Technical College.
When I am at the State Capitol in Atlanta, I have to cast votes on your behalf that cover hundreds of issues every year. However, before legislation can make it to the floor for a vote by
all 180 members of the House it has to go through one of the 38 standing committees in the House. Those committees are broken down by subject matter. Presently I am a member of the Education, Higher Education, Children and Youth, and Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight committees. My experience
working with students has given me an understanding of the needs and challenges facing our educational system which has helped me serve on these important committees.
The values I share with you — improving education, making quality affordable health insurance more
readily available, enhancing job opportunities and economic development, and protecting our community—impact my decision on every vote I cast as your state representative.
